Lots of regulators

Installation Examples

I am often asked - is there installation instructions - the answer is NO ! Why ? because there are so many different types of regulator housing and connections that one method is not suitable for all types. Below there are some pictures of different types of housing and installs that people have sent me to show what they have done to mount the unit

The DVR series are designed to be small compact, rugged and with low heat dissipation so as to fit into regulator cases. Here is a few quidelines on installation

1. Remove ALL of the old coils (2 or 3 typically) springs, levers etc leaving only the backing plate that the coils were mounted on

2. Remove the resistor (usually on the back) as it will interere with regulation.

3. Mount the regulator so that the flat (non wire) side is on the old coil mounting plate and bolt using 2 M3 nuts and bolts for a good mechanical mounting

4. Feed the wires to the backside of the housing making sure not to chafe them or cut them on metal edges

5. Solder, crimp or use nuts and bolts as appropriate to connect to the existing terminals making sure you dont damage the insulation around the terminals.

6. Make sure that you fit a fuse (inline) on the wire feeding the battery connection the fuse should be rated about 5 amps higher than the current limit of the regulator

7. Be SURE to make a good ground connection the case of the regulator IS NOT ground and without a good ground you can destroy the regulator

8. READ the data sheet before you attempt to install DVR3 datasheet or DVR4 Datasheet
